Exchange students accepted to Sophia Univeristy are encouraged to visit the International Office at this institution regularly as there are often free offers available, such as passes to the National Museum, which are distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

The Ministry of Justice has tightened regulations for students coming to Japan to study due to students coming with insufficient funds. Students now need to state how they will finance their studies and may require proof. A recommended budget is about ¥150,000 per month (about A$1,800) and about ¥30-50,000 per semester (about A$370–620) on textbooks.
